Does the basic attack upgrade apply to the hero?

I felt confused when Sean said, "and all my units will have that bonus damage" around the seven minute mark in the tutorial video. Does the basic attack upgrade apply to the hero?

    Yes! Also, if you press shift+tab in game, you can see the base and upgraded attack value for your hero and other units.
